For the first time in six months, President-elect Donald Trump will face the press directly today at 11 am ET to answer questions at Trump Tower. The press conference is ostensibly to talk about if and how he plans to divest from his business interests, but it comes at a heady time in the news cycle. Last night, reports broke of an memo compiled by a third-party intelligence operative that alleges, among other things, that Trump has corrupt ties to Russia, and that Russia has a dossier of compromising intel on Trump with which it could blackmail him. The contents of the report are entirely unverified, but national intelligence agencies reportedly briefed both Trump and President Obama about them. You can bet that today’s first question will be about those claims.
Last night and this morning Trump offered insight into how he’ll answer, tweeting that the intelligence report is “fake news” and questioning whether we are “living in Nazi Germany.”
